Aruba is a tropical paradise straddled in the Caribbean islands off the coast of Venezuela. It is a getaway heaven for tourists who are seeking to go on a wonderful adventure, eat exotic cuisine, experience new culture and swim in the warm turquoise waters of Aruba’s blonde beaches. Sheltered away from the Atlantic hurricane belt, this island is a popular tourist destination all year round. Though a question that could still be asked by many visitors is, what is there to do in Aruba? Well, a proper response to that would be, what can’t you do? The country strikes the right balance between pure Caribbean luxury and adrenaline-pumping outdoor activities. The country’s climatic activities are diverse such that you could roam a forest of divi-divi trees in the morning, dune buggy in the afternoon then enjoy a beautiful sunset on Palm Beach in the evening. Here are some of the things to do in Aruba.
A good place to start would be to visit one of the many pristine white beaches on the southern coast. Lined with resorts and water sports activities, the beaches of Aruba hardly disappoint with Eagle Beach having been ranked as the third best beach in the world according to a renowned tour blog. While on the water, you can choose to snorkel, scuba dive, kite surf or windsurf. Additionally, you can join an underwater tour by submarine or sea trek or opt to go kayaking through mangrove lagoons on the calm waters of the south of the island.
The food scene in Aruba is just as exciting. Cuisines served in the island are diverse from traditional Dutch to African, North American and even local Aruban cuisine. The restaurants are made even more vibrant by the presence of over 90 different nationalities that inspire the unique and delicious food you will be served in the restaurants.
Aruba’s second largest city, San Nicolas, is home to a thriving art scene. You can enjoy Aruba’s culture embodied in the art, rhythm, and dance found in the galleries and streets. San Nicolas is also home to museums, street murals and the Lourdes Grotto which are a sight to behold. Dance the night away in Aruba’s electrifying nightclubs, lounges, casinos or you could also plan a holiday around a music festival. Other fun activities to do on and off the resorts in Aruba are Jeep safaris, rock climbing, cycle tours and sailing.
What is there to see in Aruba you might add? The tiny island is not short of beautiful places to hitch up and go explore. One such place is Conchi, a natural pool, located on the north side of the country. The pool of water is formed on top of a natural rock that juts into the sea off the shores of Aruba. This site is only accessible through ATV’s and makes for a wonderful sight.
While still on the northern side of the island, you could plan to see the very historic and picturesque Our Lady of Alto Visto Chapel and enjoy the scenic views of the California lighthouse. Aruba is famous for its natural bridges the most popular of which collapsed. However, seven similar bridges still stand to date and are just as breathtaking. If you chose to go snorkeling, you might want to visit and see the Antilla shipwreck. It is the site of a scuttled World War 2 German cargo ship off Malmok beach. Other must-see sights on the island include the Guadirkiri caves, Arikok National Park, Bubali Bird Sanctuary, De Oude Moleni and the donkey sanctuary. Aruba is definitely an island of wonder!
